Unfortunately, he died before he finishing a whole draft; this book has no end--and worse- There are some really great scraps in this manuscript: I'd recommend this book only if you've read everything else in Fitzgerald's catalogue and can't live without a few craps more. I think it was the first film where Robert De Niro played a character even remotely likeable.
He's particularly good at motivating his creative talent, whether giving a sloppy director Dana Andrews, of Kazan's Boomerang! The last episodes with the visiting communist force him to acknowledge his personal ethics particularly regarding relations with writers.
Cecilia wants Stahr in a most grown-up way, even though he looks at her rather like a niece. The trappings of old-school luxury are everywhere for the film moguls and stars in this film: And, again, as opposed to Fitzgerald's other heroes, I don't think Stahr felt familiar with himself when coupled with some of the people who enter his life.
